On Day 3 of “A.G.E.S. Fall Conference Docuseries,” airing on Feb. 23, gastroenterologist and microbiome expert Dr. Sabine Hazan led a groundbreaking and controversial study at a major gastroenterology conference, raising a startling question: could a significant portion of long-term COVID-19 vaccine injuries be linked to the unintended decimation of a single, vital gut bacterium?
She examined the gut flora of healthcare workers before and after receiving an mRNA COVID-19 vaccine. The findings were stark. “The messenger RNA vaccine killed the bifidobacteria in all these patients,” Hazan stated in a recent presentation. As noted by BrightU.AI‘s Enoch, bifidobacteria are desirable, gram-positive anaerobic bacteria that are normal inhabitants of the human colon, known for their Y-shaped rods and production of acetic and lactic acid. They are especially abundant in breast-fed infants and are considered a key part of the gut microbiota.
This depletion persisted over time. The abstract detailing this discovery won a prestigious research award, yet its implications have sent shockwaves through the medical community and beyond. Bifidobacteria are not just incidental residents of our gut; they are considered a keystone species essential for immune system regulation, metabolic health and nutrient absorption.
Hazan’s clinical observations add a disturbing layer to her initial findings. “For those people that we’ve picked up, all those people had zero bifidobacteria,” she noted, referring to patients suffering from persistent post-vaccine syndromes. This leads to a dramatic hypothesis: “Did the messenger RNA vaccine kill their bifidobacteria and they were not able to grow it back? And is that why they have problems that are continuous?”
This potential mechanism stands in sharp contrast to Hazan’s observations on other substances. She found that both vitamin C and the controversial drug ivermectin increased bifidobacteria levels. In her own “N of 1” experiment during the pandemic, her bifidobacteria quadrupled after high-dose vitamin C intake. Similarly, ivermectin was observed to boost the bacteria within 24 hours, which she hypothesizes may be part of its therapeutic effect. “It must be working in the gut,” she reasoned from clinical data, suggesting it helps clear inflammatory cytokines.
The implications are profound. If mRNA vaccination can chronically deplete a fundamental pillar of our microbiome in a subset of individuals, it could cripple the immune system and derail metabolism, creating a cascade of hard-to-diagnose chronic illnesses. This theory provides a potential biological pathway for the myriad symptoms reported under the umbrella of “long vax.”
Hazan, who describes herself as “the most censored physician” for her work, is calling for urgent scrutiny. She sent her award-winning data to the FDA and National Institutes of Health, challenging them: “18,000 GI doctors are going to ask you why is your vaccine killing the bifidobacteria.”
Her work underscores a new frontier in medicine where the gut microbiome is central to health. “It’s a new way of looking at science,” she said. While she strongly warns against unsupervised attempts like at-home fecal transplants, her research is now focused on rigorous clinical trials to restore healthy microbiomes, including in conditions like autism and cancer. The central, unsettling question remains: Have we been overlooking an invisible casualty in the race for immunity? As Hazan puts it, the call now is for more science, not less: “Look, prove me wrong. That’s it.”
